The Garden of Ideas publishes two print journals each academic year. We accept submissions for these through a Google Form, which can be found on our Instagram (@gardenofideasuw).

For our print editions, submissions may look like:

  • Academic, philosophy focused essays

  • Poetry

  • Short stories

  • Philosophically rich art

  • Aphoristic prose

The Garden of Ideas also maintains an online blog, focusing on finding philosophy in ordinary life. We accept submissions for the blog through our email (gardenofideas@uw.edu). In submissions, please provide a form in which our editors can edit (ex. Google Doc sharing). We may select certain online blog submissions for our print publication, if applicable.

For our online blog, submissions may look like (all forms should be philosophically inclined):

  • Creative pieces of any kind

  • Film reviews

  • Book review

  • Aphoristic prose

  • Short opinion pieces

  • Explanatory arguments

About The Editing Process

  1. Editing team reviews and considers a piece for publication.

  2. Editing team contacts author with decision.

  3. If accepted, two editors are assigned

    and begin to edit.

  4. Once edits are completed, they are sent to author for review.

  5. Once piece is completely edited, an editor attends to specific formatting for publication.

  6. Published!
