About Us

The Garden of Ideas is an undergraduate journal at The University of Washington established in 2021.

Maintained by a group of philosophy students from diverse backgrounds, The Garden of Ideas is devoted to expanding UW’s community of inquiry. We adopt a highly inclusive definition of philosophy that welcomes endless ways of portraying philosophical ideas, such as art, photography, poetry, academic essays, short stories, and much more. We hope to provide a platform for students to showcase their work through a myriad of ways.

The Garden of Ideas publishes two journals every academic year. We seek philosophically-influenced submissions, including classic essays and all creative art forms. Along with our publications, we curate an online curation of philosophical works. Work by our editing team is most often found on our website, though some are published through our physical journal. More information about publication can be found under the "Submit" tab.

Additionally, we offer physical journals for purchase after publication. Follow our Instagram (@gardenofideasuw) for the most recent information about submissions, purchasing, and hiring.
